{"id":28,"date":"2011-03-20T20:58:37","date_gmt":"2011-03-20T20:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/triplescomputers.com\/?p=28"},"modified":"2011-07-31T23:12:45","modified_gmt":"2011-07-31T23:12:45","slug":"multimediagaming-environment-setting-on-some-wireless-adapters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.triplescomputers.com\/blog\/casestudies\/multimediagaming-environment-setting-on-some-wireless-adapters\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Multimedia\/Gaming Environment&#8221; setting on some wireless adapters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re using a wireless network in your home or office (or you&#8217;re helping a customer with theirs), you might encounter problems streaming video or audio wirelessly without sutters and skips occurring.<\/p>\n<p>This is a common problem with wireless networks due to the number of packets which are dropped during transmission, and in fact, it&#8217;s such a frustrating issue that many people consider wireless networks unsuitable for streaming media.<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s true that a wired network of nearly any type is superior to a wireless network for streaming purposes, there\u00a0<em>is <\/em>something you can try that may solve the problem. It&#8217;s a little-known setting in the RaLink drivers of certain networking adapters which prioritizes packets more heavily.<\/p>\n<p>This setting can be found within the\u00a0<strong>Device Manager<\/strong> (Start &gt; Run &gt;\u00a0<strong>devmgmt.msc<\/strong>) in the<strong>Properties <\/strong>window for the networking adapter. From there, click on the\u00a0<strong>Advanced <\/strong>tab and choose the setting called:<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.triplescomputers.com\/images\/bullet16.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"12\" height=\"16\" align=\"left\" \/>&#8220;Multimedia\/Gaming Environment&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Change the setting from Disabled to\u00a0<strong>Enabled<\/strong>.
